A local developer asked for a design reminiscent of the Florida planned community of Seaside for his twenty-five-foot lot in Chicagos North Center Neighborhood, in order to be differentiated from the crowd of new for-sale homes coming on the market.
The Seaside vernacular was adapted for local conditions but retains the simple massing, hip roofs with pronounced overhangs, vee-board siding and pastel color palette characteristic of the style. Special features of this variant include Tuscan columns and entablature around the full-width front porch, and a projecting center bay at the second floor.
The 3,600 square-foot home is organized on three levels with four bedrooms plus office, 3 1/2 baths, and a two-car garage. The design features a spacious kitchen with sunken great room opening to a large rear deck, carefully articulated spaces and high ceilings throughout, including cathedral ceilings in second floor bedrooms.
Completion is scheduled for late-2006.
