Clinton Complex, an adaptive re-use covering a city block in downtown Chicago, is an urban community comprising 271 loft residences and 280 parking spaces.
This site contained eleven existing buildings built between 1889 and 1962. Avatar’s urban design solution formed a coherent residential community, transforming an existing 18 foot wide vacated alley into a pedestrian way that unified the buildings. Protected by enclosed lobbies at Jefferson and Clinton Streets, this pedestrian court connects directly to new elevator lobbies at all but one of the buildings.
Clinton Complex was awarded Adaptive Re-use of the Year 2000 by the Chicago Sun Times.
